The sign was dropped off at school today where it will soon be mounted in cement so it can be placed in the garden. We hope to have it up soon so people can start using it.

Chloe and her dad finished the consrtuction/building aspect of the sign. We fixed the team blog, as well as added some components. All online documents were updated to its fullest. We are trying to plan out how we are going to bring the sign to school. As we have just found out, Mr. Bursch is not going to be at school tomorrow (the due date). So we have to work around that and ask Mr. Bursch about when we should bring the sign.
We drilled holes previous to putting the nails in so it wouldn't be so hard.
We used this angle to make sure the frame wouldn't end up crocked.
We put nails in each letters just to make sure the letters wouldn't move if the sign got banged around.
After we finished the top letters, we had to mark the placings of bottom letters.
We placed the plastic and plywood in the cutouts to make sure they fit okay.
We had the whole sign raised on blocks while we worked on it.
We had to mark and match up a lot of places before we put in any screws or nails.
We put a clamp across the short side of the sign to make sure everything was tight. We also used a little right triangle to make sure everything was laying flat.
Drilling holes, on the crosspiece below the lower letters, where the screws will go in.
One of the markings we used to position the letters.
One of the nails that secures the letters.
We had a lot of equipment set up and clamped onto the sign to make sure the wood was in the right place.
The map is slightly smaller than the opening on the frame, so we had to make sure we kept holding the plastic and wood tight so the map wouldn't move from where we had centered it.
We dropped the sheets in and started screwing them into the frame. We put screws all the way around the wood and plastic to make it very secure and partialy weather resistant.
The completed sign.

I cntinued working on transferring the data from our project activity log to our timeline. It is now all up to date as of today.

I put all the information from all our different documents onto our blog. I updated the blog with a lot of pictures as well and started putting captions on them.

Chloe let me know of an error on the map, and we had an issue figuring out how to fix it. I asked Mr. Bursch, and he gave some suggestions, so I think we'll test some ideas before correcting the error on the actual map.
<JasmineRomanoChloeStothers>
Once again, we met to work on the map. However, this time, we were able to completely finish the map. Also, we took and posted more images onto our blog. Not only that, but we checked Mr. Bursch's requirements and started updating our documents and checking to make sure we had everything we need.
The map is finally completely colored and we can proudly say it is done.
Jasmine and I working had on finish those last few areas.
After a lot of long hard hours we have reached our goal (sort of) and now just have to finish constructing the sign frame and mount it.
We added a touch of what the garden looks like right now even though there may not be squash in this patch next year.
We tried to put accurate visualiztions of what is represented in the planters all over the garden or what is coming soon - in the next few years.

I put more information on our documents that I did not have access to at school on Thursday.

We continued working on the map, which consisted of coloring and drawing. We went and traced the writing in colored pencil. We colored most main bodies, and finished the majority of the descriptions. Also, we planned to meet again tomorrow to finish the map.

Our so close to being finished map.
We almost had too many colors to choose from.

I realized that our original timeline was incorrect and irrelevant, so I notified Chloe about it and I will try to correct it.

During class we had time to work more on the project so we got computers and updated our documents and filled in information we had missed before.

The fronts have dried now so I put a second coat on the back. If we didn't put two coats on then the weather would affect it a lot more and the sign would not last as long as a whole.
<JasmineRomanoChloeStothers>
We met today to continue working on the map. We have now outlined the entire poster board and just need to go over everything in color. Unfortunately, the sun is a big factor to look at when making a sign so most materials would not hold up against the fading that happens. Because of this we decided on using colored pencil for the entire map. This means that we will need to color everything hard to make it dark.
Our map with the outline done and a litle color starting to appear.

I put the second coat on the fronts today, but it was a little thicker than the first coat so I won't be able to put a second coat on the back until tomorrow.

I started coating the letters with the first coat of spar varnish. I got through the first coat on both sides, but they will need overnight to fully dry.
Two of the letters that I already coated.
It was tricky getting the varnish in all the grooves.
The varnish got all over my hands and made them really smooth.

During tutorial, Chloe and I met to continue working on finishing the final draft of the map. Plus, we had a conversation with Mr. Bursch concerning our project and the garden, as well as asked some questions for the map. Chloe and I also walked down to the garden to ensure we made the map accurate, and we took some pictures for the blog. We posted some of the pictures of the garden and such later on.
We took pictures of the names to reference later on when we write what type they are on the map.
The old compost area, one group created a large new system for composting for their project this year.
The small greenhouse getting surrounded by roses.
Another tree that lives in the food forest.
We took a look at the artwork from students in past years.
It looked like some squash and other plants started growing in the old compost area.
Some more artwork.
The sunflowers have taken over the garden and not just in this planter.
This mural was a new addition this year.
There are five different fruit varieties growing in the garden.
We showed Mr. Bursch our work and he gave us the names that go with the garden.

We met together at my (Jasmine's) house to continue working on our project. We started figuring out and measuring the dimensions of the garden, and thanks to Chloe, our map is more to scale than our rough draft originally was. Unfortunately, our dimensions for the map on the sign was a little off, but Chloe fixed our little issue with scaling sizes. We also planned on meeting for future times this week, and are planning to go into tutorial to ask Mr. Bursch some clarifying questions. Also, some sort of progress has been made on the budget spreadsheet.
<JasmineRomano>
After Chloe left, I asked my dad about how the budget spreadsheet worked, as we were confused when inputting some of the variables and costs. He promised to help me out understanding how to work the budget spreadsheet. I believe Chloe will input some of the other costs of the signs into the table in her own time as well. In addition to that, I made sure to take some pictures for the blog before I cleaned our workspace up after we were finished.

This is the start of our final map. So far we have only drawn the layout as we tried to make it as close to scale as possible.

I talked to my dad about obtaining a poster board paper for the map. He ended up getting a 22 by 28 inch piece, which will be sufficiant (I hope) for the sign. Also, I have asked him about the plastic shetts which will contain the poster board. I took some pictures for the blog, which I then emailed to Chloe so we could upload them onto the blog.
<JasmineRomanoChloeStothers>
Today we worked together on putting the final details on the rough draft of our map. We also posted various information and pictures on our blog fr the project. We also discussed how we are going to add some adjustments to the construction of the sign.
<ChloeStothers>
My dad and I started lining up pieces and making sure everything was cut correctly. We measured where the letters are going to end up being placed and drilled holes in the crossbars for them. Holes were also drilled on the top and sides to hold the entire sign together, some even got screws put in.
These are the letters we bought to use. They are the perfect size and much more fancy than anything we could have cut ourselves.
Our final rough draft. It is very off scale, but it is very hard to draw a garden to scale from memory. We will try to make our final draft much more to scale.
We went and got the wood last week. After a lot of debating we decided to buy pressure treated 2x4s for the frame and we will use a piece of plywood my dad already has for the backing.
The next Saturday we cut all the wood into the pieces we need to construct the frame for the sign.
My dad did the hard job of chipping out a block of wood where we will set in the plastic sheet, map, and plywood.
My dad helped me screw in one of the screws to hold together the top and sides of the frame.
Trying to fit the letters into the groove my dad cut on his saw.
We tightened up the pieces with clamps so we could position the letters and mark where they are so we can drill holes where we will put screws later.
This is the drill and drill bit sets we used for the frame.
This shows one side where we screwed together the crossbeam to the side.
My dad marking the sides to know where to put the screws in.
These are the screws we used, they have to be long so they can reach through the sides and into the crossbeams.
This is another view on the clamps we used.
